CPAs in Minnesota may hold an active or inactive certificate.
There are differences between
active and inactive certificates.
Inactive CPAs may convert their certificate to active status at
any time during the year by earning continuing professional
education (CPE) credits and applying to the Minnesota Board of
Accountancy (BOA).
To convert to active status, follow the steps below.
1. Confirm your current certificate status with the
BOA if
you are unsure where you stand.
2. Earn 120 hours of CPE credit, including 8 hours of ethics,
within the past 3 years.
- MNCPA members: use the
CPE Log
tool to track your credits.
3. Complete the
CPE
Reporting Form on the BOA website.
4. Send completed form and $45 check to the
BOA.
- The BOA will accept your
MNCPA CPE
transcript as proof of attendance. Simply print and attach to form.
5. The BOA will send you a new active certificate as soon as
10 days.
Tips
- You can convert
at any time. You do not need to complete hours by the June 30
deadline or wait to convert during the certificate renewal
period.
- You do not need
to send in documentation for CPE with the conversion
application. Documentation is required only if you are selected
for audit.
