How the Mentor Program works
Mentors and their protégés are carefully matched by the ABV Mentor Task Force. The Task Force will contact each program participant and provide them with the profile of their prospective mentor/protégé. Mentors will make the initial contact with the protégé. Mentors and protégés will plan to meet once a quarter for a one-hour conference call. Brief and more frequent meetings may take place depending upon individual preference.
Mentors
Mentors act as a resource for information about the profession, offering guidance on how to become an ABV and start an ABV practice. Mentors enjoy the following benefits:
- Personal satisfaction of giving back to the ABV community
- Contribute to a legacy of personal knowledge, insight and experience
- Professional enhancement, higher visibility and prestige
Please note that mentors must hold the ABV credential and be members of the AICPA.
Protégés
For those interested in earning the ABV credential, working with a mentor will provide you with:
- Unique professional experiences
- Help identifying specific goals
- A sounding board for ideas and approaches
- A source of informative business valuation reference books and continuing education advice
- Support, advice and counsel
Please note that protégés must be members of the AICPA.
The program is ideal for professionals looking to enter the business valuation field as well as ABVs who have been practicing for a few years and would like to expand their area of expertise.
