Special election brings larger majority to Senate GOP
Rep. Jason Rarick’s (R) victory in the Senate District 11 special election on Feb. 5 filled a
vacancy in the Minnesota Senate and increased the Republican majority 35-32. As a sitting Minnesota House member, Rarick's win creates a vacancy that needs to be filled with -- you guessed it -- a special election.
Democrats will retain the majority in the House regardless of the special election outcome,
but they could increase the size of their majority if the DFL candidate wins.
