A1. What Comes After OBBBA? The Economics of Persistent Budget Deficits
Speaker:
King Banaian
Mon, 8:00 AM - 9:20 AM
In July 2025, the federal government passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA, or BBB) that reduces current taxes, spends additional money on some budget categories and reduces spending in other categories. Estimates indicate more than $3 trillion in increases to federal government debt. What is the impact of this new law, and what should you expect to happen to macroeconomic variables like employment, inflation and interest rates? Dr. Banaian will provide a forecast for 2026 based on economic theory and the course of events since its passage.
