In this hands-on course, staff will gain the skills and confidence needed to successfully handle small engagements while meeting the needs of both the client and the firm. They'll leave with the capabilities to complete smaller audits, reviews and compilations with minimum supervision and maximum profitability. Plus, they'll build their skills with analytical procedures, financial statements, footnotes and corporate tax issues.
This is a blended learning program that combines an interactive online course and self-study components. Participants are required to complete pre-work before the first day of class. The online course is interactive and attendees will participate in discussions, case studies and group work. Please have a computer or tablet with a functional webcam and microphone.

Case study practice conducting small audits -- financial accounting process, transaction cycles and the nature of GAAP; understanding the client and its environment; assessing control risk, inherent risk and fraud risk; linking assessed risks to evidence; designing the most efficient audit approach; and making management suggestions on small jobs

Performing review service engagements -- SSARS requirements and common problems in applying them to reviews and compilations

Compilation and review case study involving analytical procedures, working papers, common GAAP problems and review service engagement forms and checklists

Differences in the nature and extent of procedures necessary for completing reviews and compilations

Case study practice drafting financial statements and footnotes -- reviewing and recommending changes in the format, terminology and account groupings for a set of financial statements; firm policies and professional judgment; organizing and outlining footnote contents using a reporting checklist; evaluating an independent accountant's review report; engagement reporting exercise

Corporate tax case study -- identifying and resolving various tax issues for a small business, issues involving unethical tax return preparation, methods of depreciating assets and determining the appropriate form of business organization
