Community Outreach Volunteer Opportunities

BestPrep Volunteer

This volunteer initiative is through a partnership with BestPrep, a nonprofit that works with schools throughout Minnesota to prepare students with business, career and financial literacy skills. MNCPA volunteers speak to students about money management and financial literacy, using prepared PowerPoint slides from BestPrep. As BestPrep receives requests in your community or the school of your preference, they will contact you to coordinate a date and time for the presentation.
Time commitment: 2 hours minimum
To apply, contact: cbutler@mncpa.org

IRS Disaster Response

Consider volunteering for the IRS Disaster volunteer program if you have tax expertise. Volunteers will receive a notice from the MNCPA if a tax assistance location is set up by the IRS or the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in our area. Volunteers will help disaster victims prepare and file amended and delinquent returns and casualty losses. Some training may be required for volunteers before working in a recovery center. This is often only 1-2 hours and in some cases has been done online.
Time commitment: 1-5 hours
To apply, contact: membership@mncpa.org

MNCPA authors

Position yourself as a leader in the profession by sharing your knowledge with MNCPA members as an author of an article for an MNCPA publication. Articles may be used for the the MNCPA website, in MNCPA e-newsletters or in Footnote, the MNCPA member magazine published nine times each year. You may also contribute content to be used in MNCPA Perspectives, the MNCPA blog. Articles should have a focus on current developments, trends and issues affecting the accounting profession. Prospective authors work with MNCPA editors to develop an article idea, outline and content.
Time commitment: 1-5 hours
To apply, contact: cbutler@mncpa.org

Reasons to volunteer

Here are three important business reasons you and your firm should be volunteering:

  • Network. The most essential part of any business.
  • Show your stuff. Volunteering and community service show potential customers the integrity of your company and demonstrates the quality of your work.
  • Get attention. No better way to get positive PR exposure, and attracting new customers doesn’t hurt either.
