CPA Certificate Renewal

Updated Nov. 29, 2021

CPA certificates are issued and renewed through the Minnesota Board of Accountancy (BOA). Active and inactive CPAs renew their certificate and report their CPE based on BOA deadlines.

Note: Dec. 31, 2021, is a holiday for the BOA, and their office will be closed. Dec. 30, 2021, is the last day BOA staff will be in the office to answer questions or help with renewals.

Printed license cards ended after 2021 renewal

Your 2021 license card was the last printed license card you will receive from the BOA. Why? License cards are an outdated and potentially misleading indication of your status.

Check your license status in real time
Your CPA license status is public information available through the BOA’s website. You (and others) can confirm the validity, current status and expiration date of a license online.
