| April 2021 Footnote

Editor's note: Updated March 31, 2021

In a recent survey of our Young Professional Group (YPG) members, representing both public and business and industry, we asked which celebrity (real or fictional) they would pick to provide accounting advice to and why.

For the uninitiated, you might need to familiarize yourself with bronze Knuts, silver Sickles and golden Galleons, currency of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Here are some of the highlights.
  • Harry Potter (global phenomenon) — “He has no records of what he spends!”
  • Dolly Parton (also a global phenomenon) — “She’s kindhearted and uses her wealth to make a big difference in others’ lives.”
  • Bruce Wayne (Batman) — “He’s a billionaire who isn’t afraid to spend money; plus, with the foundation he’s involved with, you’d have nonprofit work in the door!”
  • Ron Swanson (“Parks and Recreation”) — “Because he says it how it is.”
  • Paul Rudd (actor) — “He seems very easy to talk to and that works wonders for client interviews.”
  • Chip and Joanna Gaines (entrepreneurs) — “They have lots of projects and places to visit.”
  • The Rose Family (“Schitt’s Creek”) — “For all the obvious reasons!” (Editor’s Note: Also, David Rose doesn’t understand what a write-off is, so he’ll need a lot of help from a CPA.)
  • Barbara Corcoran (“Shark Tank”) — “She’s bound to have a lot of activity, which would make the business and individual tax returns a fun challenge.”
  • Adam Thielen (Minnesota Vikings) — “He’s from a smaller Minnesota city and college and has now made it big in the NFL.”
  • Raymond Reddington (“The Blacklist”) — “He is interesting, brilliant and would bring a complex and fun tax structure to decipher and report.”
