Recognizing contributions to the MNCPA, profession

| October/November 2022 Footnote

Editor's note: Updated September 30, 2022

More than 300 members virtually attended the MNCPA Annual Meeting on Aug. 18, 2022, to learn about the organization’s activities and accomplishments during the past fiscal year, all done for and with the aid of MNCPA members. Members also received a rundown of the MNCPA annual audit and financials, listened to a panel discussion of key issues and heard about what lies ahead for the organization during the 2022–23 fiscal year.

The event was also a time to highlight the contributions of members. As a professional association, the MNCPA achieves its mission and goals through the support of many volunteers. More than 1,000 members volunteered in some capacity last year. Examples include conference planning, media relations, peer review, Young Professional Group leadership and student outreach to promote the profession.

MNCPA Board Chair Charles Esler introduced six individuals who stood out as exceptional due to the time commitments they made and the quality of their contributions.

The following is a brief look into the significant efforts behind those six award recipients:
  • Kay Freund, recipient of the Distinguished Service Award.
  • Stephanie Markert, recipient of the Excellence in Professional Development Award.
  • Eric Grube, recipient of the Volunteer Excellence Award.
  • Kirk Kleckner, recipient of the Volunteer Excellence Award.
  • Steve Warren, recipient of the Volunteer Excellence Award.
  • Larry Morgan, recipient of the Friend of the Profession Award.

Legacy Award winners

The 2021–22 Legacy Award winners are Greg Arnott, Mike Bromelkamp, Bob Campbell, Larry Mahoney, Ruth Ann Michnay and Bill Shafer. The Legacy Award includes lifetime membership.

Combined, these six individuals have 250 years of MNCPA membership — an average of nearly 42 years for each of them. Together, they’ve served on more than 55 committees, including the Legislative Issues Committee, multiple conference and education task forces, and the MNCPA board of directors. They’ve also served as committee chairs, treasurers and peer reviewers. Their stellar service to the MNCPA dates back as early as 1972 and continues today.
