MNCPA PERSPECTIVES

In memoriam: Boz Bostrom

October 10, 2025  |  Linda Wedul, CAE

In memoriam: Boz Bostrom

Yesterday, the MNCPA learned of the passing of Boz Bostrom. His influence on the accounting profession, his students, colleagues and the MNCPA community is profound and lasting.

A couple of years ago, the Minnesota Board of Accountancy shared a telling statistic: Boz’s signature appeared more often than anyone else’s on applications to sit for the CPA exam. That simple fact reflects the thousands — if not hundreds of thousands — of current and future CPAs whose paths crossed with his. Beyond the classroom, Boz was a frequent and trusted presenter of continuing professional education for the MNCPA and many firms, creating a shared sense of professional purpose and grounding attendees in a core value of the profession: integrity.

For the past six years, Boz served on the MNCPA board, including as board chair in 2024-25. As an educator and a leader, he was the right person at the right time. He championed broadening the pathways to CPA licensure, and when the board faced tough decisions — knowing criticism would come — he encouraged us to move forward with confidence and clarity. And, in true Boz fashion, he was quick to add that it was the board as a whole that took the courageous step.

In board meetings, Boz’s leadership style reflected the very reason the MNCPA exists: bringing CPAs together to elevate our collective impact. He used his role as chair to facilitate, ensuring every voice was heard; to inform, seeking shared understanding; and to enrich, by building connections — because he saw connection is a powerful asset.

Others have shared with me that Boz’s legacy is like a ripple in water: It will continue to expand and shape our profession for years to come. His passing leaves a deep void, but his impact remains — steady, generous and enduring.
