Board member role:
The volunteer Board of Directors supports the work of Rise and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by Rise’s President/CEO, the Board-CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and impactful to the organization.
Member responsibilities include:
- Selects the President/CEO and oversees succession planning
- Serving as a trusted advisor to the President/CEO as the strategic plan is developed and implemented
- Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by Rise for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics
- Approve annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all legal and fiduciary responsibilities
- Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the President/CEO
- Assisting the President/CEO and board chair in identifying and recruiting other Board Members
- Partnering with the President/CEO and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out
- Serving on committees and taking on special assignments
- Representing Rise to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
- Ensuring Rise’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflect the communities Rise serves
- Assesses major risk factors facing Rise and provides input into plans for addressing risk
- Assures processes are in place for maintaining the integrity of Rise.
- Support and participate in the fundraising efforts of the organization.
- Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per month

MN River Valley Audubon Chapter (MRVAC) is seeking an individual who has skills in finance and budgeting who will be the steward of MRVAC's bank account and transactions, plus plan and manage the Chapter's financial affairs. MRVAC's annual budget is approximately $50,000. MRVAC Treasurer administers grants for educational and service projects that support and promote environmental conservation in the Minnesota River Valley.
The Treasurer is a Board member and officer. In addition to the Treasurer duties, the Treasurer attends monthly meetings of the MRVAC Board and presents a monthly financial report of cash flow and deposits/expenditures.
The ideal individual for this role will have financial skills and passion for MRVAC's mission of wildlife conservation of the Minnesota River Valley, especially protection of birds and their habitats. Interest and commitment to monthly Board activities and decision making are also required. Membership in MRVAC, $20 annually, also required.
Our current Treasurer will train the new person into the role, transfer information and materials, and stay in the role as primary until the new person feels ready for all responsibilities.
The Treasurer usually spends 5-10 hours monthly on the duties of the role, including one-hour Board meetings monthly.
