• March 7, 2024
  • The Minnesota Senate State and Local Government and Veterans Committee holds a hearing on SF 1660 and advances the bill to the Senate Finance Committee. View the hearing
• Feb. 29, 2024
  • MNCPA members participate in the annual MNCPA CPA Day at the Capitol, advocating for many issues, including broadening the pathways legislation.
• Feb. 12, 2024
  • The New Jersey Society of CPAs publishes a survey of members showing support for broadening pathways to CPA licensure and discusses the topic on its podcast.
• Feb. 12, 2024
  • The Minnesota Legislature convenes for the 2024 session. HF 1749 and SF 1660 automatically carry over from the prior session and remain as active bills.
• Jan. 27, 2024
  • An MIT-backed study of the 150-hour rule finds the requirement caused a 14% drop in new CPA applicants and a 26% drop in minorities seeking the CPA license.
• Jan. 23, 2024
  • The Iowa Society of CPAs surveys members and makes a statement of support for broadening the pathways.
• Jan. 5, 2024
  • The Arizona Society of CPAs publishes results from a member survey showing 81% of its member support broadening the pathways to CPA licensure.
• November 2023
  • The Ohio Society of CPAs announces a five-point action plan to attract more candidates to the profession. The plan includes forming a coalition and reviewing and revising the curriculum required to become a CPA.
• October 2023
  • NASBA forms the Professional Licensure Task Force.
• Aug. 4, 2023
  • The South Carolina Association of CPAs introduces legislation to create “flexibility in our licensing framework to adapt to external changes in licensure.”
• July 14, 2024
  • Guylaine Saint Juste, president and CEO of the National Association of Black Accountants, shares support of the broadening the pathways initiative.
• July 2023
  • The Center for Audit Quality publishes a report based on 1,800 student responses that the 150-hour rule is one of the most significant barriers to pursuing an accounting degree.
• May 22, 2023
  • Minnesota Legislature adjourns for the year.
• May 10, 2023
  • The Virginia Society of CPAs publishes findings from its special task force on the 150-hour rule, stating support for further discussion, and writing, “It’s clear the 150-hour requirement is not currently meeting the profession’s expectations.”

  • The AICPA Council approves a resolution to form the National Pipeline Advisory Group (NPAG).
• March 3, 2023

• Feb. 16, 2023
  • Senate File 1660, authored by Rep. Jordan Rasmusson (R), and cosigned by Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL), is introduced in the State and Local Government and Veterans Committee for a first reading.
