Jim Westrum is the executive director of finance and business for the Wayzata Public Schools in Wayzata, Minnesota and has 30 years of experience in school business management in Minnesota schools. Jim is an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Administrator of School Finance and Operations (SFO), Registered School Business Administrator (RSBA), and a Certified School Risk Manager (CSRM). He is long-standing member of the MNCPA and AICPA as well as the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International and the Minnesota Association of School Business Officials (MASBO).
Jim serves as the content area leader for Risk Management with ASBO and regularly presents continuing education for school business officials both in Minnesota and throughout the country. Jim has been an active ASBO International member for more than 25 years.
Jim is a 2014 ASBO Distinguished Eagle Award Recipient, the 2013 Minnesota School Business Official of the Year Recipient, and a past president of the Minnesota Association of School Business Officials (MASBO).
Jim holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and a Master of Science Degree in School Business Management from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Jim holds a particular interest in operational excellence in school business administration and is committed to student achievement and prudent financial management of taxpayer dollars by ensuring that resources are allocated according to the district’s mission, vision, values and strategic directions.
Jim is a frequent contributing author to ASBO’s School Business Affairs magazine and has written on subjects such as operational excellence, financial prudence, gaining and retaining community trust and risk management.
