Robert Doty is the commissioner at the Minnesota Department of Revenue where he oversees the day-to-day operations of an agency with more than 1,400 employees that manages over 30 different taxes and collects over $26 billion annually. Doty brings extensive experience in the non- and for-profit business sectors. He brings experience related to change management, strategic planning, systems design, marketing, communications, information technology, operations, human resources, and finance. Before his appointment to commissioner, Doty served as assistant commissioner at Revenue. In that role, he oversaw the work of public policy and engagement, and was responsible for the work of the Tax Research, Appeals and Legal Services, and Legislative divisions. Doty has also served as the executive director of the Minnesota State Lottery and the chief operations officer and chief financial officer for the Minneapolis Public Schools.
