Job Summary
The Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting operations of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity and its subsidiaries. They will participate in senior leadership team oversight of the company.
Operations leadership:
- Provide supervision and leadership that ensures timely and accurate preparation of financial information.
- Manage business line reporting and analysis.
- Oversee cash management process including monitoring cash position, banking activity, investment activity, debt management and reconciliations.
- Maintain accounting policies and procedures.
- Coordinate the annual financial audit process including annual 990 tax filings, SEFA, financial statements and supporting schedules and respond to audit inquiries.
- Perform federal grant accounting functions, review input for activity reports, and working with staff to ensure contract compliance and proper revenue recognition.
Education, credentials, and experience:
- 5+ years progressive accounting/auditing experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of GAPPS
- Strong technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Job description summary:
This role will focus primarily on State income and sales/use tax compliance matters. This will require interaction with Corporate Tax, Business Unit personnel, and state taxing authorities. They will assist with the preparation of Federal and State income tax returns as well as State and Local Sales/Use tax returns.
State and local income taxes
- Prepare company’s separate company state and city income tax returns and annual reports
- Communicate with State agencies regarding income tax notices – both oral and written
- Assist with analyzing and preparing quarterly state income tax payments
- Perform research and planning tasks to legally minimize taxes
State and local sales/use taxes
This role is being evaluated and defined as the Company integrates Vertex into SAP
Anticipated primary responsibilities:
- Review of Sales/Use tax returns and payment requests
- Oversight of exemption certificate retention
Federal income taxes
- Assist with preparing Federal consolidated income tax return
- Assist with research and planning tasks to legally minimize taxes
- Communicate with Business Units to receive information in a timely manner
Additional responsibilities
- Provide occasional back-up services to the Treasury Cash Desk
- Assisting with completion of Census Bureau surveys
Requirements
- Bachelor or two-year degree in Accounting
- 1-3 years corporate income tax experience
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate with Business Unit personnel and/or state taxing authorities
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite
- Experience with large corporate compliance software, preferably Corptax
- Experience with Vertex, especially if integrated with SAP
