Cost Accountant - Grants

Location: White Bear Lake, Minnesota

Summary: As a member of the project implementation team, the Cost Accountant supports PF/QF’s mission projects by providing project-level financial accounting. The Cost Accountant works under the direction of the Senior Grants Accountant to track program expenditures, assign them to funding sources, distribute overhead, manage project cash flow, and prepare necessary financial reports.

This is an entry-level position with great growth potential for someone with a passion for the PF mission and the desire to be a long-term member of our team.

Primary Responsibilities
General Ledger
o Maintain project-level financial data
o Reconcile project-related subledger to general ledger>BR? o Assign overhead to supported projects

Accounts Receivable
o Prepare and submit invoices for submission to funding partners
o Monitor project-related receivables
o Submit past-due reminders and balance statements to funding partners

Reporting
o Prepare and submit periodic financial reports to funding partners
o Assist Contract Specialists with financial reports for project close-out

Assist with development of financial statements and year-end audit

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Customer service attitude and desire to be part of a successful team
  • Excellent understanding of financial software and Excel
  • Passion for conservation, natural resources, or outdoor recreation
Starting Salary: $45,000 - $50,000 depending on experience.

Finance Director

This position will provide management of the organizations financial activities. Responsibilities include maintain and improve the organization’s financial soundness, and to provide accurate financial information and control. Also, assure the financial accounting system conforms to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, corporate policies and governmental regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Executive Director in planning effective allocation of financial resources to meet organizational mission
  • Develop annual budget and provide oversight for cost control
  • Provide analysis of financial information to Executive Director, Finance Committee and the Board of Directors
  • Provide Financial leadership and creativity in the development of new programs that enable Wingspan to diversity and grow
  • Provide internal financial analysis and reports to the Executive Director on a monthly basis
  • Ensure that bank reconciliation, aging of receivables, and annual audits are completed in a timely way
  • Oversee the development and improvement of financial systems
  • Provide oversight to Payroll, AR and AP
  • Provide supervision to Finance Department staff offering coaching and direction
  • Manage cash and assets of business
  • Ensure that income from waiver, ICF and other government sources is received in a timely way
  • Facilitate cooperative relationships and procedures between the financial department and other departments in meeting the needs of the clients and the organization
  • Works harmoniously with and shows respect for other employees, supervisors, vendors and clients
Educational/Experience:
  • Four year degree in business with accounting major, CPA, or CMA preferred
  • 3 years experience financial and management leadership, analytical ability, strategic and business planning
  • Knowledge of Waiver, ICF and GRH systems preferred
  • 2 years supervisory experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details
  • Strong ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately

Responsibilities:
The Grant Accountant will be responsible for fiscal management and compliance for public grants and contracts including participating in grant applications and renewals, reviewing new and renewed grant awards, preparing budgets and narratives, establishing grant monitoring and reporting schedules, timely billing and collection of grant and contract receivables, preparing financial reports and required audit schedules, and assisting with other assignments as assigned.

Qualifications
Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • Knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, federal and organizational regulations.
  • Minimum of two-year experience with federal grant accounting and reporting.
  • Ability to apply GAAP, and work within strict guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze budgetary line items for compliance with budget guidelines.
