Training new staff is an investment in your employees and in the future of your firm. In this three-day course, your staff will get tools to improve efficiency, become more profitable and meet quality control standards. The curriculum, geared for both local and regional firms, bridges the gap between the theory students learn in college and the tools staff members need in practice. They'll get experience preparing workpapers, performing compilations and reviews, performing tax research and completing detailed audit tests.

Major subjects

  • Audit objectives -- steps in the audit process; circumstances under which analytical procedures, tests of controls, tests of transactions and tests of balances are performed
  • Workpapers -- critiquing a set of cash workpapers, identifying and overcoming workpaper deficiencies, and characteristics and benefits of engagement management software
  • Analytical procedures -- the why and how, plus a case study to identify and follow up on accounts that have a high risk of material misstatement
  • Different levels of assurance and responsibility associated with financial statement preparation engagements, compilations, reviews and audits
  • Procedures performed on compilations and reviews and the circumstances under which they are performed
  • Case study practice -- financial statement preparation for a closely held corporation
  • Tax situations common for small- and medium-sized clients, how to perform straightforward tax research, and case study practice identifying situations with tax implications and performing basic tax research
  • Auditing and reviewing selected accounts --identifying audit/review objectives for given balance sheet accounts; designing and implementing procedures to effectively and efficiently meet the objectives; case study practice auditing receivables, payables and inventories

Learning objective(s)

  • Improve knowledge, skills and attitude to enable staff to be more productive and profitable on audits, reviews and compilations
